“The advanced technique I want to tell you about is call lucid dreaming. For those of you that don’t know what this is, it is something you have probably experienced, but maybe not since you were young. Lucid dreaming is when you become aware you are dreaming while still within a dream.
Typically, when this happens — and you start to become aware you are dreaming — then the dream begins to disintegrate and you feel yourself waking up. Your early experiences of lucidity are therefore likely to be experiences of waking up from a deep dream with the thought, “oh this is a dream” shortly before waking up.
Where this phenomenon gets so exciting is that by thinking about lucid dreaming in your waking life and coming to recognize it as a phenomenon, you will bring a new level of awareness to the point of waking from the dream such that you can stay within the dream — instead of letting your realization of “I am dreaming” wake you up.”
